I direct and lead community engagement projects for orchestras around Australia. I’ve developed player-training programs and taken orchestral musicians into schools, hospitals, prisons, theatre collaborations, post-conflict communities, and more.
FESTIVALS, ARTS CENTRES, SCHOOLS AND COMMUNITIES
Innovative music workshops and massed music-making opportunities for all ages and all abilities, created for international festivals, arts centres, schools, and celebratory community events. Current workshops include the Music Construction Site, Hidden Music, and large-scale jams like Jump on the Bandwagon.
DISADVANTAGED SCHOOLS & NON-ENGLISH SPEAKING SETTINGS
Workshop residencies in disadvantaged or under-served schools, in particular with newly-arrived refugee and immigrant cohorts, that support student engagement, creative expression, literacy and oral language, and positive settlement experiences.
I lead workshop residencies and creative music-making experiences in post-conflict and developing countries. I’ve worked in Timor-Leste, Bosnia-Hercegovina and the Republic of Georgia as a visiting artist and on behalf of humanitarian organisations. Music in these contexts offers participants creative expression and social connection, providing vital ‘food for the soul’.
